Let’s Talk Diamonds: Lab, Natural, and What No One Tells You

Let’s Talk Diamonds: Lab, Natural, and What No One Tells You

Queen of Bitches

Here’s the thing: whether it’s Earth-grown or lab-made, a diamond is still a diamond. But your wallet? That’s where the difference really shows. And I’m not here to sell you a fairytale — I’m here to tell you what I would do, and what you should think about before spending thousands on sparkle.

Let’s get into it.

👑 Are Natural Diamonds Really Rare? Or Just Really Good at Marketing?

Natural diamonds are old. Like, older-than-everything-you-own kind of old. And yes — certain types are rare (think: fancy colors, perfect cuts, no inclusions). But the truth is?

Most white diamonds on the market are not rare. They’re just priced like they are.

De Beers and the diamond industry basically invented the idea that your love = a big rock. Respect the hustle. But don’t get played.

If you’re buying a white natural diamond, you’re paying for the origin story, not the rarity. That’s not shade — that’s facts. And hey, some people want that story. Just know what you’re buying.

💸 Let’s Be Real About “Investment”

Here’s what no one wants to admit:
You will lose value the moment you walk out of the store.
Yes, even with GIA certs.
Yes, even with the cutest proposal story.

Natural diamonds are beautiful, sentimental, and maybe you pass them down one day. But if you’re buying one thinking it’s a financial asset?
Sis… buy gold or property instead.

💖 Fancy Colors: Natural vs Lab

Now we’re talking.

Natural pinks, blues, greens — those are legit rare. And when I say rare, I mean you’re-competing-with-auction-houses rare.

Expect to spend $50k to $500k+ per carat if it’s real and untreated.

So when I see someone wearing a 2-carat pink diamond and they say “It’s natural”… I raise an eyebrow. Respectfully.

If you want to wear pink or blue diamonds that are actually affordable, go lab. You’ll save your sanity and your savings.

💡 My QOB Rule of Thumb:
• White diamond under 1.5 carat? Go with what feels good — natural or lab.
• Fancy colored and big? Lab-grown. It makes way more sense unless you’re literally a collector.
• Wanna pass it down? Natural might feel more romantic — just make sure it’s certified and not garbage.

🔍 Want Natural? Here’s What I Look For:

Don’t just go for “blingy.” You need:
• GIA certificate (non-negotiable)
• Clarity between VS2 and SI1 — eye clean, wallet happy
• G–H color range — white enough, won’t break the bank
• Excellent cut — sparkle beats size. Period.

Forget what TikTok says. A cloudy 3-carat with no cert is just a sad rock.

🧠 Final Thoughts (aka what your jeweler won’t tell you):

Natural diamonds are beautiful.
Lab diamonds are brilliant.
And both are legit — if you’re buying for you, not for resale.

If you want a giant pink diamond on your finger and don’t have a yacht parked out back? Get a lab-grown.
If you’re proposing, gifting, or investing in a future heirloom? Maybe go natural — but don’t do it for resale value.
Do it because you love it. That’s it.

No pressure. Just power.
